History

Micro Machine Company was founded in 1964 by entrepreneur and inventor William Walker, known for his “Walker Downriggers” (used for Great Lakes fishing) and an electrical surgical knife. The medical device caught the eye of an investment firm, and in 1988 the company was purchased and current owner Larry Dehart was brought on as Operations Manager. Larry brought with him 15 years of experience in the aerospace industry and implemented that industry’s “best practices” procedures. That philosophy together with the medical industry’s GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), permeates through everything we do here at Micro, culminating with our ISO 9001:2008 and 13485:2003 Registrations.

Micro Machine Company’s growth over the last ten years has been a result of our unrelenting attention to detail and our strategic alignment with some of the Orthopedic Industry’s most recognizable OEM’s.

To keep pace with our growth and customer demands, we expanded our Kalamazoo, Michigan manufacturing facility in 2005 by adding 9,000 sq. ft. to the shop floor, and more Wire EDM, CMM, Laser Marking, and Passivation equipment capacity. In May 2009, a “Star” SR-20J Swiss Automatic Turning Center was purchased along with “state of the art” software to broaden the scope of machining operations required for spinal instruments and other specific types of instrument configurations. These additions will further compliment our CNC Milling, Turning, and Finishing capabilities.

These technologies and investments will help ensure the future of Micro Machine Company will be even more successful than our past, as we continue being one of the industry’s best and most trusted contract manufacturers of complex assemblies and devices.
